The defeat of Dino Melaye, a former senator, by his rival, Smart Adeyemi, at the just concluded Kogi senatorial rerun is a collective decision by people of the state to end ineffective representation, Governor Yahaya Bello has said
Bello said this in reaction to the victory of Adeyemi, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the election.
Governor Bello said Adeyemi’s victory is the collective manifestation of the virtues of the people of Kogi West.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Onogwu Muhammed, on Sunday, December 1, in Lokoja, the governor said the mandate given to Adeyemi showed the people’s collective decision to move away from how they were represented in the immediate past to a more progressive representation that would bring development.
While commending the supporters of the APC and the people of the district for peacefully carrying out their roles of voting during the poll, the governor praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the manner it conducted the exercise.
Yahaya Bello also commended the security agents who ensured the poll was conducted peacefully.
The governor further promised that he would spend his second term developing every part of the state.
He said the APC was happy and grateful to the residents of the senatorial district for the way they conducted themselves and supported it during the poll.
”Now that we are having all three APC senators representing Kogi at the National Assembly, my administration would work in synergy with them and other APC lawmakers to attract more projects to our state, to make life more meaningful for its citizens,” the governor promised.
